Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh: Pittsburgh District Library Center

Technology Services

Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and the eiNetwork

In its 2009 budget submission to the Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD), Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh (CLP) has requested to serve as the fiscal agent for the full eiNetwork funding from RAD in the amount of $2,598,900.

This request is driven by the results of the consulting summary provided by Dewey & Kaye and the technology report developed by Solutions 4 Networks, which show eiNetwork services in decline and trending toward obsolescence.

As the fiscal agent, CLP would step into a leadership position to provide enhanced technology capacity to library users and libraries.

CLP anticipates that it would be able to use these funds more efficiently by contracting out traditional IT services like the help desk and network functions and incorporating new services like network security. Such changes would result in positive results for both libraries and customers with no increase in expenses to county libraries.

Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh would utilize its successful district services model to disseminate information and convene a technology council to ensure that representatives from libraries in the county have input into system enhancements.
