Vol. V, Issue 1 • 2011 New Chapter Newsletter

From the Director

2011 promises to be a year of action.

Last year, the Library and community spent a lot of good time connecting. The conversations have spurred a movement of new library champions who share a passion for literacy and know that even the smallest loss inservices is a gut-wrenching blow to our city's educational system. As a new year begins, it is time for all of us to take proactive steps to sustain our Library's future.

Exciting changes are on the horizon. The Public Private Task Force on Sustainable Funding released their final report, which calls for a multi-pronged approach to keep our system fiscally healthy. The six funding strategies presented in their report divide the fiscal responsibility equally among all aspects of our community, with government, foundations, corporations and individuals working in concert to build sustainability. While the Task Force agrees that this plan will not solve all of the Library's financial strains, it is a positive fundamental first step.

Changing the Library's long-term funding strategy and service models is an evolving process that requires collaboration from all of our supporters. Now, more than ever, donors are set to play an important role in the Library's future. Thank you for supporting libraries. I hope we can continue to count on you to help us as we move toward a brighter future.
