One June 18, 150 of the region's leading grantmakers and business people overwhelmingly responded to the Library's invitation to learn about the importance of libraries and literacy in stimulating economic growth and improving quality of life. Who better than Dr. Dr. Vartan Gregorian, former president of New York Public Library, to lead us in this discussion?

Dr. Gregorian was responsible for massive shift in public opinion during his tenure. No one could imagine New York without a library, and because of his great work the citizens do not take New York Public Library for granted. The Library is recognized as a focal point of the city's cultural, social, educational and intellectual life - a message that needs to resonate within our own region.
