Fiction, Film and Fun: The Color Purple

Thursday, April 17, 2014
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Join CCAC's Jeanne Bergad to discuss The Color Purple by Alice Walker. This Pulitzer prize-winning novel is narrated through the diary entries and letters of Celie, a young black woman in 1930’s Georgia who is mentally and physically abused by her husband. The 1985 film was directed by Steven Spielberg and it starred Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover, and Oprah Winfrey. For both Winfrey and Goldberg, The Color Purple was a feature film debut. Along with 1977’s The Turning Point, The Color Purple holds the record for the most Academy Award nominations (11) without a single win.
