Fiction, Film and Fun: The Maltese Falcon

Thursday, November 19, 2009
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Join CCAC's Jeanne Bergad to discuss the novel "The Maltese Falcon," by Dashiell Hammett. In this classic mystery novel, the iconic detective Sam Spade becomes a pawn in a complicated game of betrayals and double crosses, all for the sake of an immensely valuable gold statuette in the shape of a falcon. The 1941 film version was the directorial debut of John Huston, and it starred Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor, Peter Lorre, and Sydney Greenstreet. Although Bogart’s depiction of Sam Spade is one of his most famous roles, he did not receive an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. However, stage actor Greenstreet (in his very first film role) received a nomination for best supporting actor.
