Join CCAC's Jeanne Bergad to discuss Crazy Heart, by Thomas Cobb. Thomas Cobb’s 1987 novel tells the story of Otis ‘Bad’ Blake, a 57-year old country singer with a drinking problem and a series of failed marriages. Bad’s sojourn of one night stands at small town bars is interrupted by an interview with reporter, Jean Craddock. Bad begins a relationship with Jean and it inspires him to get his life back together, with mixed results. The 2009 film was directed by Scott Cooper and starred Jeff Bridges as Bad and Maggie Gyllenhaal as Jean. Both were nominated for Academy Awards for their performances, and Bridges won. It was Bridges’ first Oscar following a 40-year career in film and four previous nominations.
