Nonprofit Board Essentials

Wednesday, June 19, 2013
9:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Having an engaged, committed board is the key to a successful organization, so come learn how to get your board functioning at a higher level.

Best practices in board development will be the focus of this class; including board roles and responsibilities, board member agreements and evaluations and effective communication between the board and the organization.

This interactive class will benefit the newest of organizations as well as long standing organizations whose boards need re-energizing.

The speaker, Lulu Orr, is Program Director of BoardsWork! a program of the Bayer Center for Nonprofit Management. Lulu has been a dedicated presence in the Pittsburgh nonprofit community for over 20 years. As Founder and Executive Director of the Good Grief Center for Bereavement Support, Lulu worked from the ground up in creating and running that organization for 10 years. Creating first a Board of Advisors, which transitioned into a Board of Directors, Lulu knows first-hand the importance of an educated and engaged Board.

Lulu has served on several boards and currently serves on the board of directors of Hekima Place (an orphanage in Kenya) and Allegheny Cemetery. She also is an active member of the professional advisory boards of Forbes Hospice and Helping Hands Healing Hearts.

The cost to attend this program is $20 per person, which includes a light continental breakfast. Registration is required by calling the Foundation Center at 412-622-6277.
