Writers LIVE @ CLP - Main: Allison Amend

Thursday, September 5, 2013
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Former University of Pittsburgh English professor Allison Amend is the author of A Nearly Perfect Copy, a novel described by Publishers Weekly as a “clever, wry… nearly perfect novel.” The novel begins with the story of Elm Howell, an art expert employed at a Manhattan auction house, who has recently lost her son as a result of a natural disaster. Elm’s story is juxtaposed against the world of Gabriel Cannois, an underappreciated artist living in Paris. Both characters must question the morality of their choices as they produce forgeries that change the course of their lives. Kirkus Reviews calls the book “a fast-paced, lively novel of forgery” that’s a “provocative and likeable read.” Amend is a graduate of the Iowa Writers Workshop and teaches creative writing at Lehman College in New York City.
