CAPTION: Dr. Jonas E. Salk winner of the 1956 Albert Lasker Award. Dr. Salk, director, Virus Research Laboratory, University of Pittsburgh, was named winner November 1 of a 1956 Albert Lasker Award by the American Public Health Association in New York. Dr. Salk was honored for "distinguished achievement in developing a safe and effective protection against poliomyelitis." NOTES: The exhibit offers some biographical information on Dr. Salk.
