Happy Birthday, Harry Potter!

Harry Potter fans are looking forward to the end of the month for at least two reasons. July 31st not only marks the birthday of  Harry Potter, the boy who lived, but also the release of J.K. Rowling’s new book, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The new release is available to place on reserve in the library’s catalog.

Growing up with the Dursley’s was never easy for the young Harry Potter and birthday celebrations were pretty much non-existent.  But all of that changed when Harry received his first letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Even though time has passed and Harry is now a full grown wizard, husband and father, the Children’s and Teen staff at CLP – Squirrel Hill believe you’re never too grown-up for a birthday celebration!

On Sunday, July 31st from 2-4 PM children and their families are invited to CLP – Squirrel Hill to celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday. This is a party you won’t want to miss! Festivities will include wand making, dragon eggs and much more!

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, an original script by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne, is the story of Harry Potter nineteen years after the defeat of the dark wizard Voldemort. Following Harry as a Ministry of Magic employee and father of three school-age children, the play explores the balance between light and dark, the inescapable reach of the past and the ties that bind us to family.

The eighth book in the series is also the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The play will receive its world premiere in London’s West End on July 30, 2016, with the release of the book on the following day.
