Tzu Chi is a Taiwanese-based benefit society espousing "kindness, compassion, joy, and unselfish giving". The Pittsburgh Office, which opened in July of 2002, has planned a series of activities, including weekly Buddhism Cultivation study groups, health discussions, youth summer culture classes, Chinese knotting classes, and monthly "Happy Life" seminars. It also pursues community service activities such as nursing home visits, assistance for abused women, and Food Bank projects. The office's Buddha Hall and library are also ready for public access.
