Celebrate all things 80s at the totally tubular 2014 Alternative Homecoming, a party where you're encouraged to express yourself!

Tickets can be purchased online at the link above or in person in the Teen Department of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Main in Oakland (4400 Forbes Avenue).
Don't wait! This event will sell out!

Here's a sneak preview of some of the things we have planned:

  • An 80s dance floor, featuring punk, new wave, hip hop, electro and more from the neon decade, in celebration of the novel Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell.
  • Polaroid photo art from the Carnegie Museum of Art, in honor of the exhibit Duane Michels: Collector.
  • Scavenger hunt through Wildlife Halls for homecoming crown decorations based on nature's very own bling, courtesy of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History
  • A classic arcade, featuring gigantic NES controllers built by The Labs @ CLP
  • Collaborative teen map of Pittsburgh with Reading Warriors from the Neighborhood Learning Alliance.
  • Make your own corsage with 80s comics, courtesy of New Dimension Comics
  • A delicious selection of cupcake flavors (that will definitely NOT make you want to be "like totally gagged with a spoon")!
  • And more!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I have to dress up?
A: Nope! You can wear your everyday clothes or come decked out in vintage 80s-inspired gear. But if dressing up makes you feel your most fabulous self, all the better! There's room for everyone.

Q: Do I have to bring a date?
A: Nope again! We encourage people to come alone or in groups of friends. There will be a lot to do.

Q: If I went to my school's homecoming, can I still go to this?
A: Yeah, you definitely can! We scheduled it later in the year specifically so you could do both if you wanted.

Q: Can I buy tickets for groups of people?
A: Sure, and that's really nice of you!

Q: Will you play...
A: Maybe! We're keeping things mostly 80s, but if you want to request a song, you can do so here.

Q: Should I eat dinner first?
A: Yes, definitely! We are offering punch and cupcakes, so please make sure you get some nutrients before you party with us!
