Celebrating Gwendolyn Brooks with Revise the Psalm

Even though she lived in Topeka for just over a month, Gwendolyn Brooks was indeed born there. 2017 would have marked her 100th birthday, and towns all over Kansas were alight with celebratory readings, walks and exhibits throughout the year. Beyond the state borders, fresh anthologies and rejuvenated collections were released in honor of the woman who penned some of the most iconic poetry of our time.

5 Questions With… J.J. Hensley

Pittsburgh’s own J.J. Hensley brought some suspense to our Summer Reading book list with Resolve, his award-winning thriller that centers on the Pittsburgh Marathon. J.J’s upcoming novel Bolt Action Remedy, which will come out in October, takes the action to a small town in Central PA. J.J. will be appearing at CLP – Mount Washington at 6:30 on Thursday, August 24th


The Mystery Behind the Final Girls

A lot of descriptions that I read for the book, Final Girls compared it to a slasher movie. After reading the book, I can see why. The premise is the same. A group of college kids go on a weekend trip to a cabin and then they get murdered by a crazed killer on the loose. This sounds like most slasher movies of the late ’70s and the ’80s, like Halloween and Friday the 13th series for example. There’s even a lone survivor left to tell the tale.
