A Baby Book Shower x 2!

Almost a year has passed since our first Best Books for Babies Baby Book Shower, which took place at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Main in May 2017. Expecting parents, parents, caregivers and children ages birth through 18 months attended this wonderful event which featured stories, songs, nursery rhymes, games, cake and of course a display of the 2017 Best Books for Babies. While the little ones who attended our inaugural event are now one year older, we are excited to celebrate a new bunch of babies at two upcoming Baby Book Showers. Join us Saturday, May 5th, 2018 at CLP – Hazelwood and Saturday, May 12th, 2018 at CLP – Allegheny, from 1:30-2:30pm.  You can register here.

Learning begins at birth! Not only are our Best Books for Babies Baby Book Showers a fantastic way to jump start your child’s education, they are fun, too! Since our first event, we have hosted two more at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Knoxville and Northview Heights Estates on the Northside.  Let’s recap our past Baby Book Showers so you can know exactly what to expect and prepare yourself and your little one for an afternoon of books, songs, games and of course, cake!

At each Baby Book Shower, we will read selected books from the Best Books for Babies list. This list has been specially curated by Pittsburgh child development experts and librarians. A new list has been published each year since 2000, and is a fantastic resource for parents and parents-to-be and anyone seeking books for babies. Check out the 2018 Best Books For Babies!

It’s essential to build early literary skills as early as possible, which is why we will sing plenty of songs and nursery rhymes, like From Wimbledon to Wombleton, One, Two, Buckle My Shoe, or Baa, Baa Black Sheep.  Learn new rhymes and songs for your little one, or tell us some of your favorites that we can pass on to others.

You can show your baby those writing skills by jotting down as many nursery rhymes as you can think of in one minute. The winner will take home a #PGHREADS onesie for their little one!

Playing isn’t only about having fun! Children learn about the world around them through play, all the while developing the skills essential for a successful future. While your little one plays, our Baby Book Shower will commence with cake! And there will be plenty of time to talk with fellow caregivers and parents about the joys and challenges of bringing a tiny human into the world and raising them into big human beings.

Each family will receive copies of the Best Books for Babies, which is a great way to continue fine tuning those early literacy skills at home! We hope you will join us Saturday, May 5th, 2018 at CLP – Hazelwood and Saturday, May 12th, 2018 at CLP – Allegheny, from 1:30-2:30pm.

Brittany is a Library Assistant in the Children’s Department at CLP – Main where she enjoys reading stories, singing songs and ending her storytimes in a multitude of bubbles. Reading isn’t her only love, she also enjoys writing for children and adults alike.
