New Year, New Books: Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s 3 Ways to Keep Reading Resolutions

Pittsburgh, PA  –   –

For page-turning pros and resolution-makers alike, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh (CLP) is rolling out expert-crafted resources to help patrons achieve their 2025 reading goals. As part of the Library’s commitment to fostering literary engagement and supporting the personal growth of all patrons, these resources are designed to spark joy and make reading accessible, exciting, and attainable – while helping those resolutions stick long past January.

According to Pew Research Center, of those who make New Year’s resolutions, 55% focus on hobbies or personal interests and 49% involve work and career goals – all of which can be sustained with help of the Library. “In conversations with our patrons, reading is a top New Year’s resolution because it has so many benefits – it reduces stress, improves cognitive function, and offers an escape, to name a few,” said Kristin Morgan, Coordinator- Adult Collections. “Your local librarian is here to be a ‘sidekick’ to provide resources and tools to stay on top of those resolutions.”

For those looking to delve into a new genre, form new reading habits, or start reading completely, the Library is here to help with hand-picked lists, motivation, and personalized suggestions.

  1. Recommended Book Lists

Beyond those books everyone seems to be talking about, CLP librarians released their Staff Picks covering just about everything one can imagine from the year’s hottest releases. Between books about the injustices of birding, romance books based on Chappell Roan songs, and a retelling of an old classic, the staff have curated something for everyone’s interests.

Broken out by genre, the Staff Picks can help identify the books best suited to readers’ interests:

Caregivers of the youngest patrons can also choose from the highly anticipated Best Books for Babies List, CLP’s annual guide that ranks the top books little ones can enjoy to build the foundation of their love of reading.

  1. Personalized Recommendations

Don’t know where to start? CLP has created a resource to help kick-start your reading list tailored to your reading preferences. Simply fill out this form indicating your literary taste and CLP will return a shortlist to fuel your reading appetite –and help you find your literary match!

  1. Join a Book Club

For some extra motivation and accountability, CLP’s monthly book clubs encourage readers come together to discuss popular page turners, mystery books and even cookbooks. This built-in way to connect with others covers a wide range of topics and always promises a lively discussion.

Head to your local CLP branch to learn more about monthly book clubs that meet both in-person and virtually, or check out the Events page on CLP’s website, and click on the gray “Event Type” button beneath the “Search for events” box to select “Book Club.”
