According to the Harvard Graduate School of Education, loneliness affects a significant portion of the population and poses serious health risks. Libraries play a critical role in addressing this problem and ours is no exception. In fact, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh offers two types of programs for connecting with your neighbors over a cup of coffee.
Coffee and Conversation is a casual drop-in session where you can chat with library staff and each other. Sometimes the meetings start with a theme, just to make meeting new people a little easier. But once people start talking, the topics people share cover a wide range of interests.
If you’d like to connect with groups as well as individuals, you’ll enjoy Coffee + Connect at CLP – Downtown. Each session features a representative from a local community organization to share the programs and services they have to offer throughout the Pittsburgh area. Gwen’s Girls, Literacy Pittsburgh, and Vote Riders are just a few of the community groups that have been featured.

Not a coffee fan, or prefer to bring our own? The Library offers other programs where you can socialize with your neighbors while making crafts, tabletop gaming, or watching a movie. Movies are especially great for when you’d like to be around people, but don’t feel like talking!
Making connections in our fast-paced, busy world can be difficult. That’s why the library offers such a wide variety of ways to plug in to your neighborhood network. For more information and social options at your favorite CLP location, check out our events calendar.
