Final Countdown

Only 48 more hours until Summer Reading Extravaganza, the Library’s annual celebration of literacy and learning. This year, you’ll have the chance to:

  • Enjoy live performances, interactive storytimes and puppet shows
  • Browse the annual book sale
  • Play a fun CLP Readers Game
  • Try your hand at science experiments
  • Check out cooking and gardening demonstrations
  • Personalize a Smiley Cookie with Eat‘n Park
  • Support your Library by purchasing food from the featured food truck

and much, much more!

Once the countdown is over and the summer fun begins, you’ll be able to start counting up: this year the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh challenges the City to read 90,000 books by August 31. Every book, audiobook, magazine or other item you log this summer will count—plus you can win prizes! Are you up to the challenge?

You can sign up for summer reading anytime, but if you come to Extravaganza, you’ll get the added benefit of face time with Library staff who can hook you up with excellent reads for your beach bag, car audio system, or digital device. From classics to comics, we’ve got tons of suggestions up our sleeves, so come put us to the test!

Join us on the Main Library lawn Sunday June 5th, 12-5 p.m. and remember: the journey to 90,000 books begins with a single signup.
