Job Seekers

Resumes, Mock Interviews, and Skills Updates

If you are working on a resume to prepare for a new job or career, or you want to brush up on your interview skills, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh can help you even when you aren’t able to make it into a location. To take advantage of our remote resume review or mock interview services, reach out to info@carnegielibrary.org to schedule an appointment. If you want to learn a new skill or sharpen an old one, don’t forget that Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh offers access to Lynda.com and its thousands of training videos at no cost to Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh card holders.

Unemployment Support and Career Counseling

If you’ve been impacted by job loss, Pennsylvania unemployment compensation might be available to you. The official Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation website is the best place to find out if you are eligible, and to begin an unemployment claim.

The JFCS Career Development Center operates career services remotely to provide individual career counseling to help you explore your options, define your objectives and develop the strategy and tools required to achieve your career goals. If you are interested in accessing the JFCS Career Development Center’s career services and support, call 412-422-5627 or email cdc@jfcspgh.org.

PA CareerLink staff offer telephone career services and prescreening interview phone calls for various regional jobs at their Downtown office (412-512-7100) and Forest Hills office (412-436-2225). Call either office to find out more.

Job Postings and Youth Summer Employment

Pittsburgh’s workforce development board, Partner4Work, created a helpful website that includes additional local workforce resources, and information about important regional job openings, such as Production Assembler Worker at Phillips Respironics.

In addition, Partner4Work manages Pittsburgh’s summer youth employment program, Learn and Earn. Youth applying for summer jobs can receive application help by calling 412-932-2950, emailing summer@partner4work.org, or by visiting www.facebook.com/learnandearnpittsburgh for more information.

Small Businesses

Growing or Starting a Business

If you already own a small business that you hope to grow, or are planning the business you’ve always dreamed about, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh has numerous online business resources for you to explore. I will point out especially Reference USA, which is helpful for doing competitor research and creating marketing lists, and the Gale Virtual Reference Library and its Business Plans Handbook.

Additional Support and Learning Opportunities

Local organizations, such as the University of Pittsburgh’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence, offer a number of webinars to help you on your entrepreneurial journey, whether you’re looking to start a new business or grow a current one.

Nonprofits

General Nonprofit Support

The Bayer Center for Nonprofit Management is a key local resource for nonprofits to learn more about starting or running a nonprofit. Their staff are can be reached at 412-397-6000 or BCNM@rmu.edu. In addition, a local nonprofit sector consultancy called Curio412 is leads Virtual Roundtables on Response and Resiliency that could be beneficial to your nonprofit organization.
