Chose one and get to reading. For our list this year, we are partnering with our friends at Pittsburgh Arts and Lectures to highlight five authors from the upcoming season of 10 Evenings, plus five more authors featured in past events from PA&L’s five terrific programs.

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead

Washington Black by Esi Edugyan

The Doorposts of Your House and On Your Gates by Jacob Bacharach

Another Brooklyn by Jaqueline Woodson

Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward

Circe by Madeline Miller

The Overstory by Richard Powers

The Friend by Sigrid Nunez

There, There by Tommy Orange

Ready to play? Here’s how it works:

Gather a team of 3-5 members. Choose a captain and a name, decide which night you will participate in, then follow the link to register.

Read the books.

Show up at the event ready to compete! At the event, we will read three rounds of ten questions (one question per book, per round) plus a bonus round at the end. Teams record answers and hand them in for scoring at the end of each round. The team with the most points wins. During the event, no books or phones will be allowed.

Ready to go? Click here to register for the August 21 event. (Go back to the top of this listing for links to the other options.)

If you have questions or are a solo reader looking to be matched with a team, please contact Dan Hensley at hensleyd@carnegielibrary.org.

Let the competitive reading commence!
