Summer Reading Extravaganza

5… 4… 3… 2… 1… blast off to a universe of stories!

Your journey begins on Sunday, June 9th at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Summer Reading Extravaganza, a family-friendly outdoor festival for all ages. Grab your friends and head to the Library in Oakland for music, crafts, games, activities, storytelling, food trucks and so much more! While you’re there, enroll in Summer Reading and get your 2019 materials!

Don’t forget, be sure to tell us what you’re reading this summer using #PGHREADS!

Library Activities Include:

  • Bouncy House and inflatable games
  • Chess Club
    Play chess! Find a friendly challenger or come by to learn the basics. Then, make your own chess piece to start a personal set!
  • DataBurgh
    Stop by the DataBurgh tent to see what kinds of data-driven projects we’re excited about, learn about The Library Freedom Project, and participate in an interactive display.
  • Family PlayShop
    Play and learn together with toys and activities for children ages birth to 5 years and their caregivers.
  • Global Library
    Have your name written in a different language, learn about Library resources and Library Welcome Centers, make buttons, play games and win prizes!
  • LBPH Sensory Experience
    Explore technology and materials that make reading accessible to individuals with print disabilities.
  • Local History
    Use our computer and headphones to add an oral history to Yinzstory and learn more about how you can contribute.
  • Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Music Department
    Stop by for rhythm games, thermin playing, electronic gadget playground and more!
  • Reader’s Tent
    Love books? Come play reading games and fill out a top ten list of your favorite authors to help us make Pittsburgh’s Favorite Author Bracket.
  • Creative Tech and Super Science
    Create your own circuit vinyl stickers and planetary puzzles.
  • CLP Board of Trustees
    Say hello to your CLP Board Members and play a game to win a prize!
  • Share Your Library Story
    Share your library story at our selfie station and color a picture for our wall of fame.
  • Used Book Sale
    Browse our selection of new and gently used books (and some AV). There is something for everyone!
  • Enroll in 2019 Summer Reading

Food & Drink:

  • Decorate and enjoy your own Eat ‘n Park cookie
  • Grab a granola bar and piece of fruit from the Giant Eagle Snack Station
  • Stop by the WISH 99.7 Street Treat Patrol for a free snack between 12:00 and 2:30 pm
  • Purchase food from great local food trucks donating a portion of proceeds to the Library:
