Sounds Upstairs: The Singing Double Bass

February 11 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Detail of a double bass string music instrument

How can an instrument sing? In this program, the double bass explores different ways to answer this question through transcriptions ranging from plainchant to Elizabethan lute songs to arrangements of folksongs from Armenia, the UK, and Nova Scotia, to African-American spirituals. Andrew and Jeanne Kohn have performed some of these transcriptions for a long time; some are pandemic projects; some are brand new! This event will be held in the South Wing Reading Room.
