Summer Reading Kickoff with Mad Science presents The Wright Stuff

June 12 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

A statue of the Wright Brothers' early airplane model on the beach in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Flights of Imagination Summer Reading kickoff is soaring to new heights! It’s like a rocket blast of books, a hot air balloon of creativity, and a flock of reading pterodactyls majestically gliding through stories. Whether you’re soaring into magical worlds or flying through galaxies, there’s no limit to where your imagination can take you. Buckle up—this summer’s about to take flight!

Mad Science will present from 4:00 – 5:00pm

Children will explore the fundamentals of aerodynamics in this hands-on program about how things fly. From the basic principles of flight to building airplanes, hovercraft, and balloon-copters, and testing them in wind tunnels, children will understand what makes things fly and how different types of aircraft fly. For grades K – 5.

Stay after from 5:00 – 7:00 pm to join CLP -Homewood artist-in-residence, Anita Levels, for a performance and panel discussion about the historic National Negro Opera Company, based in Homewood in the mid 20th century.
