One Book, Every Young Child is a Pennsylvania initiative that promotes the importance of early literacy development for preschoolers ages three to six. Since 2006, a book is selected annually by a committee of early childhood educators, librarians and museum educators. The selected book encourages children’s imaginations and love of reading. The 2018 One Book is My Cousin Momo by Zachariah OHora.
Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh participates on the state-level committee and provides professional development to Pittsburgh Librarians and educators. Children’s Specialists at libraries across the city of Pittsburgh create and provide storytimes and special events based on the selected One Book. Through this initiative, we create a community of readers and celebrate young children.
