Ellen’s Broom
Kelly Starling Lyons
DBC 8511
Ellen has always known that the broom hanging on her family’s cabin wall is a special symbol of her parents’ wedding during slave days. When it’s announced that all former slaves can now have their marriage unions legally recognized, Ellen accompanies her family to the courthouse and proudly carries the broom with her. For grades K-3. 2012.
