Welcome Back. We Missed Seeing You!

We’re OPEN!
for limited in-person service.

Through slow and careful planning, the installation of safety equipment and protocols, and mandates set forth from the State, Allegheny County Health Department and Office of Commonwealth Libraries we are excited to welcome you back inside our spaces. At this time all CLP locations are operating under reduced building occupancy (25%) and time limits on in-person services (60 minutes).

Our curbside and virtual services will continue for patrons who are more comfortable with contactless service. Chat, call, text or schedule a contactless curbside pick-up.

We hope to see you soon!

If you or a member of your household have a fever, cough, shortness of breath, feel sick (even if your symptoms are mild), or have visited a COVID-19 hotspot within the past 14 days please reschedule your visit for a later date. We offer a variety of digital materials, resources and programming, including eBooks, music, movies and much more that you can access virtually 24/7.

Contactless Curbside & Walk-up Services

Subject to change based on circumstances outside of our control.

We want to assure you that we have been working very hard to make curbside service as smooth, comfortable and safe as possible. Pickup times will be scheduled every 15 minutes.

When your items are ready you will receive a notice via email, telephone or text. When you get this notice, please call your location to arrange a pick-up time. All visitors will need to have a confirmed appointment time in order to pick up their items.

Locations Currently Offering Contactless Curbside & Walk-up Services:

If you have a fever or are not feeling well, please do not come to the Library to pick up your holds. Contact us to let us know you cannot make your pick-up time.

When you arrive at the Library:

  • Please plan to arrive during your prearranged pick-up window. Call the location to announce your arrival. You may be asked to verify a piece of personal information to determine identity.
  • We ask that you respect social distancing protocols and stand behind the line marked on the sidewalk. Staff are required to wear a face covering and maintain social distancing. We ask that you do the same when using curbside service.
  • Staff will retrieve your prepacked items and bring them right to you. They will place the bag on a table. Then, you may step forward and retrieve your items.
  • We would love to chat and catch up, but for everyone’s safety please do not linger or congregate in front of the Library.

To limit the spread of COVID-19, we are quarantining all items before processing. Please note that items recently returned to the Library may continue to appear on your account for at least four days (96 hours)

Public Computers

PCs are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are limited to one 60 minute visit per day. Each location is working with reduced occupancy. To make sure everyone who wants to access the Library is able to, we are asking patrons to limit their time in the building. Our virtual reference and reader’s services are happy to assist for more in depth questions.

Outdoor Wi-Fi

To help provide Internet access to as many residents as possible we have expanded the outdoor range of our free Wi-Fi at all Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh locations. Please practice social distancing and be courteous to your fellow patrons when accessing the network. Please note that the Library’s wireless network is not secure and personal information sent from or to your wireless device can be captured by anyone else with a wireless device and the appropriate software.

Printing

Wireless printing is available in the Library or via pickup at curbside locations Tuesday through Saturday. The service is free, please limit your printing to ten pages per day. If using curbside, you must make an appointment to pick up your prints and use one of the secure methods listed here.

Requesting New Library Materials

Looking for something new? Browse our Staff Picks to find your next read then request your selections through the Catalog.

Personalized Recommendations

Stuck in a reading rut? Overwhelmed by all the choices out there? We’re happy to recommend your next book, album, movie or TV show. Simply fill out this form, and wait to be amazed as our specially trained staff match you with a list that suits your interests.

A quick note: We’re working hard to get your requests to you in a timely manner. Please be aware that transporting materials between locations is taking much longer than it used to. This is due to increased demand, changes in shipping, and the need to quarantine materials for everyone’s safety. This means that it may take two weeks or longer for your item(s) to arrive.

In addition, items recently returned to the Library may continue to appear on your account for a few days. As a precaution, returned materials are quarantined for at least four days (96 hours) before staff can handle and check them in.

Please contact your local library for hold pickup instructions, or to ask questions about returned items.

Our Commitment to Safety

The safety of staff and library users is our first priority. Right now we are taking additional steps beyond regular practices to maintain services to our communities. We are:

  • Actively monitoring news and updates provided by the CDC, Allegheny County Health Department and the PA Department of Health related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Limiting our building capacity and are asking you to keep your visit to 60 minutes in length.
  • Increasing the frequency of cleaning and sanitizing in our facilities. High touch surface areas are sanitized every 60 minutes. In addition, disinfectant wipes are available for patron use to clean computers or other surfaces during your visit.
  • Conducting temperature and wellness checks on all staff at the start of every shift.
  • Requiring all staff and patrons to wear a face covering (mask when entering and working in library buildings). Face coverings must cover the nose and mouth.
  • Requiring staff to wear gloves while handling materials and wash their hands once per hour following CDC guidelines.
  • Practicing physical distancing and traffic management expectations and signage while entering, moving about and exiting the building.
  • Quarantining materials for at least 4 days (96 hours) before handling.
  • Removing soft items, such as toys, puzzles and other interactive items, from public spaces.
  • Requesting all customers and staff practice social distancing by maintaining a 6 foot physical space from one another to avoid potential contagions.
