In 1922 Count Alexander Ilyich Rostov is sentenced to spend the rest of his life in a single attic room at the Hotel Metropol.  His crime – writing a poem with revolutionary overtones.  While Russia undergoes decades of upheaval, the Count is forced to find a way to preserver.  Inside the elegant hotel the Count slowly adjusts and discovers a way to turn his life of bondage into one of purpose and meaning.  Through his interactions with hotel guests and staff the Count finds a passion for life.  This is a book about the salvation that mutual respect and understanding can bring.
