James A. Garfield was nominated President against his will, but once nominated he fought the political corruption of his day.  Only four months after his inauguration, Garfield was shot.  With the assassination of Abraham Lincoln still fresh in the minds of the nation, the people helplessly watched as James Garfield fought for his life.  This is a story of how a senseless tragedy united a fractured country.
