Eileen

The title character is unlikeable and filled with self-loathing; she is pitiable, disturbed and repulsive. Also, strangely fascinating. So, here’s a page turner with a deeply compelling character study.

Into the Water

This is the second novel by the author of the popular Girl on the Train. A single mother of a 15 year old girl is found dead in the river of a small town. As it turns out, there is a long history of dead women being found in this river. The author reveals the story from many characters’ points of view and also alternates between first and third person for different characters. The book is quite suspenseful and almost everyone in the town is guilty of something.

The Silent Wife

This book is a portrait of a toxic marriage, told between two alternating voices: “her” and “him.” On page two, it is revealed, “that a few short months are all it will take to make a killer out of her.” A quick read.

Under the Harrow

This concise novel includes shocking murder, an unreliable narrator and surprising plot twists. The author creates a complex relationship between the two sisters and puts the reader inside the head of the main character, Nora. There is a surprise ending.

The Winter People

Here is a chilling thriller with a touch of the paranormal. The narrative is quick paced and terrifying! Reading this may induce nightmares.
