Sunny

The youth who live in the Star Kids home have been forgotten, left to help each other through life’s challenges. While their day-to-day reality might be bleak, they escape through Sunny—an old car that acts as a magical portal to different realities.

Sunny is a relatively straightforward manga, especially compared to Taiyo Matsumoto’s other works. However, it deals with his typical subjects: dreamy kids who are a little (or a lot) different from everybody else. The lines that separate reality and imagination are tough to discern.

The drawing style is less polished and more introspective than most manga. Shadows, plentiful dark hatching and painted ink compliment the soft lines.  Frequently, the artwork bends toward the surreal.

Fans of graphic novels and underground comic strips will likely find much to love in this manga. Manga fans should expect a strong story and an adventurous presentation of the genre.

Sunny

What is Sunny? Sunny is a car. Sunny is a car you take on a drive with your mind. It takes you to the place of your dreams.

Sunny is the story of beating the odds, in the ways that count. It’s the brand-new masterwork from Eisner Award-winner Taiyō Matsumoto, one of Japan’s most innovative and acclaimed manga artists.
