Woman’s Best Friend

Most New Yorkers would never dream of having a pet live with them in a tiny New York apartment. But when Lauren Fern Watt graduated from college and moved to New York from her suburban Nashville home, she brought her best friend with her. Gizelle, her best friend, is a 160-pound English Mastiff and a country dog at heart.

Never living in a city, let alone the biggest American city, Gizelle is not accustomed to the noise, crowds, tiny spaces and the city grass; better known as asphalt. But with patience and understanding, Gizelle not only finds her niche but she takes the city by storm, with aloof city dwellers opening up to her and Lauren.

But all too soon, Lauren realizes that Gizelle is sick. Not ready to give up her best friend, Lauren designs a bucket list for her dog. The true meaning of love shines through in Lauren’s retelling of her time with her best friend.

Gizelle's Bucket List: My Life with a Very Large Dog

In an attempt to keep the family together, Lauren’s mother, a struggling addict, buys the teenaged Lauren an English Mastiff named Gizelle. No one could have foreseen the impact Gizelle’s short life would have on not just Lauren but all who met Gizelle.
