Who Doesn’t Love Penguins?

What could be better than the rich voice of Morgan Freeman paired with adorable penguins waddling through the sparkling Antarctic landscape? That’s right, nothing is better. (Unless, of course, you had the opportunity to meet Morgan Freeman and a penguin at the same time. That might be more awesomeness than anyone could handle, though.)

March of the Penguins 2 isn’t available on DVD yet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get your penguin fix. For a start, why not re-watch the award-winning original? It’s been 13 years since its release, if you can believe it. (And next year will be 20 years since I graduated from high school; yikes!) If you haven’t seen it, you definitely should. You’ll be surprised by how emotionally invested you become. There are beautiful landscapes, adorable penguin chicks, drama, and that great narration by Freeman.

You can also check out the book and peruse photos of majestic and/or hilarious penguins. The only downside is, you don’t get Morgan Freeman’s wonderful narration in the printed format. Not a problem! You can hear his voice in other movies. Maybe you want to flip through the March of the Penguins book with Invictus playing in the background. I won’t judge.

Or you can satisfy your need for penguins with other books and DVDs. Here are a few fun facts to get you started…

  • Penguins live on every continent in the southern hemisphere.
  • Some species of penguins venture onto land only to breed or molt.
  • Penguins have spines on their tongues to aid in catching and eating prey.
  • Penguins can drink sea water. They have a gland to filter salt out of their bloodstream.
  • Five species of penguins are endangered.
