Best of BARD: November 2017

Here we finally find that holiday title I was expecting to see in October.  Debbie Macomber’s Merry and Bright came in at number five for the top five books downloaded by our Western Pennsylvania patrons last month.  Deep Freeze by John Sandford was the top download atop a list that, other than Macomber’s title, is comprised of thrillers.  King Patterson made the top five yet again, as did the ever-popular John Grisham and Dean Koontz.  Will December’s Best Of have more holiday works and maybe less mayhem?  Stay tuned until January to find out!

Virgil knows the town of Trippton, Minnesota, a little too well. A few years back, he investigated the corrupt–and homicidal–local school board. Now a dead woman’s been found frozen in a block of ice, and it might be connected to an upcoming twenty-year high school reunion. Unrated. Commercial audiobook. Bestseller. 2017.

The Store
By James Patterson
DB89125 / CL16672
While Jacob and Megan Brandeis work at the hugely successful, ultra-secretive Store, they are secretly writing a forbidden book that will expose it. But the Store is always watching. And if it finds out, the couple and their kids better run for their lives. Unrated. Commercial audiobook.  Bestseller.  2017.

The Rooster Bar
By John Grisham

Mark, Todd, and Zola all borrowed heavily to attend a third-tier, for-profit law school so mediocre that its graduates rarely pass the bar exam. The school is part of a chain owned by a shady New York hedge-fund operator who also happens to own a bank specializing in student loans. The three friends formulate a way to escape their crushing debt, expose the scam, and make a few bucks in the process. Unrated. 2017.

The Silent Corner: A Novel of Suspense
By Dean R. Koontz

“I very much need to be dead.”  These are the chilling words left behind by a man who had everything to live for–but took his own life. In the void that remains stands his widow, Jane, surrounded by questions destined to go unanswered…  unless she does what all the grief, fear, confusion, and fury inside of her demands: find the truth, no matter what.  Unrated.  Bestseller. 2017.
