Here to Help Booklists

Women looks at a book with a young girl

By sharing stories together and having conversations about the books you read, you can help young children understand the world around them. Seeing diverse experiences represented in books helps children to explore their own identities and develop empathy for others. Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh staff members recommend the titles below as a place to start. The children's librarian at your neighborhood library is here to help too, and can offer suggestions for these or other topics of interest. The Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, also addresses sensitive situations in their Tough Topics booklists for grade K-8.
