Pennsylvania One Book

Pennsylvania One Book is a statewide initiative that promotes the importance of early literacy development for young children. Since 2006, a book is selected annually by a committee of early childhood educators, librarians and museum educators. The selected book encourages children’s imaginations and love of reading.

In 2019, there are two books. Banyard Banter by Denise Fleming is for children birth to 36 months and their caregivers Not a Box by Antoinette Portis is for children ages 3-5 and their caregivers.

Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh participates on the state-level committee and provides related professional development to Pittsburgh-area librarians and educators. Children’s Specialists at libraries across the city create and provide special storytimes based on the selected books. Through this initiative, we create a community of readers and celebrate young children.

We hope you’ll join us at a PA one Book Storytime in your neighborhood!
