Learn Digital Skills at the Library

If you or someone you know needs help learning to use a computer, you are not alone. Every year, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh helps thousands of adults across the city learn about technology, and our specialty is helping people who do not consider themselves to be savvy learn how to use technology to connect, get things done, and to relax.

How We Can Help

Technology access and learning are at the core of the library’s mission and have been for over thirty years. The library’s unique approach to digital skills service – we are not a traditional IT help desk, but instead focus on helping each individual find resources to meet their learning needs – means that we have something to offer to virtually everyone.

Read below about several different technology services that we offer, but a good first step is always to get in touch with us to find out how we can help you with your technology learning goals.

Walk-in, Phone, and Chat Help

If you are trying to learn to use technology and you get stuck, you can always get in touch with the library to ask. We help people learn to use computers all day, every day, and you can contact us however you like – call us at 412-622-3114, send us an email at info@carnegielibrary.org, or chat with us at www.carnegielibrary.org. If you have a quick question or are working on something time-sensitive and need help right away, we will do our best to get you the information you need right then and there. And if you have a more in-depth or long-term learning goal, we can get you signed up for a class or an appointment for further help.

Classes

Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh offers basic computer classes in locations across the city. Our curriculum is based on the topics that people most often come to us for help learning, including Microsoft Word, mobile phone and tablet operating systems, staying safe online, and using your own device to check out eBooks and audiobooks.

Visit our events page or contact your favorite location to see the schedule of computer classes.

One on One Appointments

If you want to learn something that is not covered in one of our classes, or if you could use some extra help meeting your technology learning goals, you can schedule a one-on-one appointment. You let us know what you are interested in learning, and we will book a 50-minute appointment for you to get some focused help learning to use one of our computers or your own device. Appointments are available in-person, over the phone, or by video call. Contact 412-622-3114 or chat with us at www.carnegielibrary.org to schedule.

Working with Our Partners

The library isn’t the only place to get help with computers! We often refer library users to other organizations that offer additional services, whether for additional in-depth help for people who are just getting started or advanced help for people who are interested in going farther with technology learning. This list shows just a few of our partners – ask at the library to learn more.
