30 Books in 30 Minutes Pride Picks: Speculative Fiction

On Wednesday, June 7th at our South Side location, and on Saturday June 24th, at our Downtown location, CLP will be reprising the popular 30 Books in 30 Minutes program – but with all titles that we picked for Pride Month! Join us for a blitz of booktalking, some tasty refreshments, and even book giveaways.

Here’s a taste of some of the titles we’ll be talking up. These are all titles with a speculative twist, either alternate histories, slightly magical realities, or creepy fantasy-tinged worlds. Come to one of our programs to get the real in-depth scoop on why these are great titles to put on your holds list. We’d love to see you!

A hard-boiled noir romance set in a 1940s Chicago where magicians form a sort of secret police, and an exiled magician plies her trade as a private paranormal investigator. Helen Brandt has to find the White City Vampire before her time on Earth expires, and protect her beloved Edith from her dangerous life. The House in the Cerulean Sea

Linus, a caseworker in the Department in Charge of Magical Youth, must ascertain whether six magical orphans are dangerous enough to end the world. The orphanage director, Arthur, would protect them with his life. Even though they may end up being at odds, Arthur and Linus also feel a connection, and try to find answers together.
