Autism Acceptance Month

April is Autism Acceptance Month! Recently, autism advocacy groups have been working to highlight acceptance over awareness.  This post from the Autistic Self Advocacy Network explains it beautifully:  

“Acceptance and awareness come from vastly different mindsets. Awareness seeks to highlight…the differences and distance between our ways of being. Acceptance looks at commonalities we share and at the strength inherent in diversity.”  

Reading books by authors and with characters with autism–especially books that recognize and amplify the perspectives of that community–are vital to empowering, supporting, and including people on the autism spectrum. Check out the list below for some of our recommendations.
