Here to Help: Books about Toilet Training

By sharing stories together and having conversations about the books you read, you can help young children understand the world around them. Seeing diverse experiences represented in books helps children to explore their own identities and develop empathy for others.
These books introduce the concept of using the toilet and encourage young children as they transition from diapers to underwear.

Not every book is available at all locations, but any title can be requested. The children’s librarian at your neighborhood library is also here to help, with suggestions for additional titles on topics of interest–or feel free to suggest some titles to us. New books are always being added to the collection. You can find more Here to Help booklists on different topics by clicking here.

Dinosaur vs. the Potty

How to Pee: Potty Training for Boys

Family physician Dr. Todd Spector presents a fresh and outrageously fun way to encourage little boys to give up their diapers. They can try it freestyle (in the backyard!), or give the potty a try with the help of a few props and plenty of imagination. Peeing in the potty is a lot more fun if you do it rocket style, cowboy style, or superhero style!

How to Pee: Potty Training for Girls

Spector offers ten peeing styles for girls, including Witchy style, Tea party style, Princess style, and Gymnast style. Costumes, props, and a flair for drama are encouraged; the idea is to make the potty-training process fun and less stressful for all involved.

The Potty Train

Covers all of the issues that arise during the potty-training journey and encourages toddlers to leave their diapers behind and climb aboard the potty train.

Time to Pee!

Sign-carrying mice give encouraging instructions for using the toilet.
