Top Five Books in the Library’s Welcome Center

The Library’s Welcome Center collections hold books, movies and kits that share dynamic stories and information. Featured films from around the world and information about citizenship and language learning aim to share a message of welcome to immigrants, visitors and newcomers to Pittsburgh.

I gathered the top circulating book titles in the Welcome Center collections at CLP – Main and CLP – Squirrel Hill, as I am always curious about what is popular in our collections. You can access these top circulating titles in the Library’s print collection and you can find similar titles in digital collections by using the access points outlined below!

Master the Basics – English

This book for English as a Second Language students covers all the fundamentals of English grammar and usage, including parts of speech and typical verb patterns in sentences. The book also features summary grammar rules, illustrative word charts and brief tests with answers to help students gauge their progress. 

Basic American Grammar and Usage: An ESL/EFL Handbook

This book emphasizes practical use of written and spoken American-style English, rather than theory. Short quizzes for self-testing appear throughout the textanswers are given at the back of the book.
