Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh seeks to provide meaningful, intuitive experiences to all community members through welcoming, accessible spaces, materials in a variety of formats that are easy to discover and use, high-quality programming and technologies designed to meet customer needs.

Most Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh locations are fully accessible, open and inclusive and offer assistive technology. The Library continues to improve its facilities to ensure that its locations are fully accessible to all. TTY and Related Services

For users requiring TTY, relay or related services, please contact Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh during regular hours by dialing the Pennsylvania Relay service at 711 or 800.654.5988 (844.308.9291 for Spanish.)

Relay service in Pennsylvania is provided by Hamilton Relay. Hamilton has multiple relay options for the user.

Assistive Technology, Materials & Services

All Library locations feature Microsoft’s Ease of Access Center on each public PC. In addition to offering screen magnification or narration, the Ease of Access Center also enables users to set screen contrasts and make adjustments to the keyboard and mouse settings in order to make them easier to use. Furthermore, all public PCs in the Library come equipped with JAWS and MAGic software.

At the Library of Accessible Media for Pennsylvanians (LAMP) CCTVs are available for public use, as is Kurzweil software with a scanner. In addition, LAMP makes available for in-house use refreshable braille displays, iPads with accessible features and apps, tactile maps and braille and tactile games.

Library of Accessible Media for Pennsylvanians

Pennsylvania residents who are unable to read standard-sized newsprint, unable to hold a book or turn pages, or who have a physically-based reading disability may be eligible for services through Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Library of Accessible Media for Pennsylvanians (LAMP). Please call 1.800.242.0586.

American Sign Language (ASL)

ASL interpreters are available upon request. To make your request, please contact the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh location hosting the event you wish to attend. We ask that you notify us at least one week in advance. Anyone requesting an ASL interpreter will also receive priority seating at the event.
