Listen Together: Perfect Picks for an Assortment of Ages

I grew up listening to my (incredibly patient) mom reading aloud to my brother and me. From early favorites, like Harold and the Purple Crayon, right up through Pippi Longstocking and even The Hobbit (did I mention she was very patient?) we shared a book or chapter every night. (Which just might be why I wound up working at the Library, but that’s a different story.)

If your family likes listening together, check out the list of kids’ audiobooks we’ve put together on OverDrive. There are books intended for a variety of ages and even grown-ups will likely find something to enjoy and/or ponder. You can browse to find a cover that looks interesting, like one of these, perhaps:

Title details for My Life as an Ice Cream Sandwich by Ibi Zoboi - Available      Love That Dog - Audiobook       Fuzzy Mud - Audiobook

or you can do a little detective work to find out more about the content and recommended audience.

Do that by clicking on the book cover in OverDrive to check out the details or looking the book up in our catalog and reading the summary (it’s found in the Details section).

You can even decide to listen to an old favorite—rereading (or listening to) books you already know you like can be very comforting.

And remember, if you find that a book you’d like to listen to or read is already checked out, you can take a peek at the “Always Available list where you’ll find lots of options without a wait.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll go call my mom to thank her again for all those hours of reading.

Happy listening.
