For many many years Main was the only CLP library to have an Anime collection, but this year we’ve decided to expand into the branches. Now you can pick up some wacky subtitled (or watch it dubbed – we don’t judge) animation at any CLP location! Here’s a small sample of what’s out there.
Chihayafuru – Years ago Chihaya met a talented karuta (a Japanese card game) player who inspired her to become the greatest player in Japan. But she’s not there yet – she’s in high school now, and has to put together her own karuta team.
Food Wars – A scrappy teenage diner cook enrolls in a prestigious culinary academy where the students settle their disputes through cooking duels. It’s like animated non-stop slapstick Iron Chef.
In this Corner of the World – Young bride Suzu must adapt to her new life in her husband’s hometown of Kure. Oh, it’s right outside of Hiroshima. And it’s set during World War II.
Kino’s Journey – The heartwarming yet mysterious tale of a girl and her talking motorcycle (what?) and their travels.
Kiss Him, Not Me – Formerly overweight fangirl Kae suddenly becomes popular with the best looking boys in school, but rejects their advances because she thinks they should be dating each other instead.
Sailor Moon Crystal – The original magical girl anime, reanimated and waaaaaay prettier than the nineties version. Plus, talking space cats from the Moon.
The Squid Girl – Squid Girl damages a charming beachfront cafe while attempting to get revenge on humans for polluting the oceans and is pressed into working off the repair costs.
So whether you’re looking for pirates, assassins, robots, maids, robot maids, talking animals, aliens, bounty hunters, alien bounty hunters, high school romance, alternate realities, British vampires, master criminals, strange reincarnations, demonic notebooks, terrible teachers, earthquakes, time travel, unsuccessful girl bands trying to fly to the moon, or literally ANY COMBINATION OF ANYTHING EVER, there’s something weird (or cute or scary or funny) for you in our anime collections!
