Celebrate Your Fandom at PhenomeCON!

Teen Specialists Staff Image

Are you itching to dress up as your favorite character, show off your Smash Bros skills or make new friends to discuss your latest fanfiction and fanart? Every August at CLP – Main, teens gather for PhenomeCON— Pittsburgh’s free, city-wide, teens-only fandom convention!

Teens come in cosplay or make one at the event, and celebrate their fandom through special activities and panels including:

Fandom Showdown

  • The crowd votes as teens advocate for their favorite character in this fandom bracket competition.

Trivia Contests

  • Teens team up to show off knowledge of books, movies, comics, TV shows and anime by competing in trivia contests.

Crafting

  • Attendees make their own buttons, bind their own books, crochet keychains and more!

Costume Making

  • Whether they’re sprucing up an existing cosplay or starting from scratch, library staff and volunteers help teens create costumes.

Teens work on a sewing machine.

Costume Showcase

  • This culminating event allows teens to show off their costumes on stage in front of all their fellow CON goers!

Smash Bros Tournament

  • Teens practice all summer and then come compete in this all-day free Smash Ultimate tournament. Controllers are provided, but personal controllers are welcome.

Fandom Singalong

  • Music and theme song enthusiasts sing their favorite songs together or show off with karaoke.

Teens can also enjoy Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the Gathering, virtual reality, green screen photography, a scavenger hunt and much more!

PhenomeCON 2019 will take place at the Main (Oakland) Library on August 3rd from 10 AM to 4:30 PM. Transportation is provided from select Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh neighborhood locations. Registration opens in the summer and is encouraged to guarantee lunch.
