Reference Universe

This resource is only available from inside Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.

Reference Universe searches the complete indexes of more than 10,000 designated reference titles, and then indicates which titles are in the collection at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Main Library. Nearly 2,000 of these titles are online editions. Reference Universe places the reference collection of Carnegie Library’s Main Library at your fingertips and is updated monthly.

Researching Your Art (Research Guide)

Few things are as exciting as discovering a painting that’s been hiding in the attic or rediscovering one that’s been on the wall for years. When you find such a “hidden treasure,” all sorts of questions arise: Where did this come from? Who is this artist? Are they famous? and of course, how much is it worth?!? Where do you start?  While the folks on the Antiques Roadshow make it look really easy, researching art and determining its value is a highly-trained profession; however, there are a number of sources that you can use to do a preliminary search or to get a general idea.
