COVID-19 Resources: Prevention and Protection

Updated: April 29, 2020

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has created a helpful online resource on protection and prevention against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Here are the main steps they recommend to take in keeping yourself and others healthy:

  • Know How it Spreads
    • The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.
      • Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
      • Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
  • Take Steps to Protect Yourself
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (if soap and water are unavailable, use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol).
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Take Steps to Protect Others
    • Stay home if you are sick (wear a face mask when around other people).
    • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue.
    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
